Navigating Life and Work
Havilah Cunnington and Shawn Blanc talk about navigating life and work, saying “no” to certain opportunities, understanding how you work best, and more.
Highlights, Takeaways, and Quick Wins
- Be an expert in who you are and the way that you work. Know when the best time of day is for you to get your most important work done, and then guard that time. For most people, it’s in the morning. So don’t squander that morning time with distractions, inboxes, or meetings if you can help it.
- Outsource and automate everything you can that’s not necessary for you to do and to be present for.
- When creating something, don’t be lazy. Take the time to make it right. But don’t procrastinate either — it’s better to ship. And know that it’s okay to be wrong, thus you have to be willing to change mid-course.
- Take yourself and your work seriously. You have true value to add.
- Know that your work and life boundaries and goals are often in a state of flux. They ebb and flow. It’s okay to let things be moving, but you’ve got to stay intentional and proactive about time ownership and not allow things to get out of control or to turn into a reactive state.
- Be clear on what’s important to you.
- How can you win today that will help you win tomorrow?
