Common Questions
Do I have to do the course in 40 consecutive days?
Nope. However, the ideal pacing of the course is to do it one day at a time with a one-day break in between each module. At this pacing it takes 46 total days to complete the course. Since each day of the course is designed to build on the previous, if you do it with minimal gaps in between then the topics and principles will stay top of mind.
You are, of course, free to go at any pace that works for you. Only want to do lessons on weekdays? Cool! Need to take a vacation just as you’re completing Module Two? No problem! You may take as long as you like to complete the course. And since you have lifetime access to the course, there is no rush to complete it (or even start it) until you’re ready.
The website keeps track of which days you have completed, and you can easily see your progress on the Table of Contents page. It is easy to keep track of your progress in case you have to take time off from the course.
How much time should I plan on devoting each day?
About 15-30 minutes for most days.
Is this best done in the morning, or evening. Will it help me during the day?
It’s best done any time that works for you. The website is fully responsive, so you can do the course on your phone if you want.
I highly recommend you choose a time and place you will do the course, and keep that consistency for the duration. Having that scheduled time each day will help guarantee you actually do the course and
Should I do this with a ready notebook and a cup of coffee?
Some days, yes!
Especially for Modules Two and Three (Honesty and Clarity) — throughout these modules there will be questionnaires for you to fill out. You can either download and print the Module Two and Three workbook, or you can write the questions into a journal of your choice and answer them there.
For journals, I recommend one of the following:
- Baron Fig (physical notebook): These guys make fantastic notebooks.
-
http://dayoneapp.com (digital journal): Day One is by far and away the best journaling app for iOS and Mac. If you use Day One to answer the questions in Modules Two and Three, you can easily tag those entries with #focuscourse to make them all grouped together and easy to come back to in the future.
-
Evernote (digital notes app for all platforms): If you need a notebook app for Android, Windows, Mac and/or iOS then Evernote is probably your best bet.
What happens if I link to The Focus Course website from my Facebook or Twitter, etc?
If you are encouraging someone else to sign up for the Focus Course, feel free to link to the main home page: thefocuscourse.com — for those who are not logged in, they will see the website’s landing page. For you, this page serves as your Dashboard.
If you ever link to any other page within the site, no problem. The site is completely password protected, and only those who are signed in can view the content. If anyone comes to a page within the site but is not logged in, they will see a message inviting them to sign up. (Or, if you land on a page that you had bookmarked but realize you need to log in, you can do so right from there.)
How is it done?
Each day you’ll be given a fun and simple task to complete along with a teaching lesson about the value, relevancy, and practicality of that day’s task.
You can take the course online or download the 273-page PDF workbook.
The Focus Course has been meticulously and intentionally designed to lead you along the easiest and most impactful path. It starts out easy and fun and culminates in profound change and understanding.
My spouse and I want to take the Course together
Awesome! I definitely encourage you both to take it together if you’re able. The Focus Course is very personal and introspective at parts, so each of you may would want to do the reading and assignments on your own, but you could then talk about each day’s reading and assignment. And, during Modules Two and Three, there are a lot of guided questions about goals and lifestyle practices that definitely can be done with your spouse.
However, the way the website is built, you will have a unique username and password and your progress through the course will be tied to that username. So if you and your spouse both go through at the same pace this is fine. But if you go through each at your own pace, only one of you will be able to keep your lesson progress marked on the site — the other will have to remember where he/she is at.
However (and this kind of answers question number 4, below), there is a PDF version of the focus course you can download and print out. You could print out two copies of it if you like.
If you and your spouse want to each have your own unique login to the website, then it’s an additional $99 for the other login. Please email me for the details about discounted spouse pricing.
