Shutting Down Focus Club

Focus Club: Group Coaching Call

October 2018

In short, yesterday was our final coaching call. Your membership will be cancelled automatically (some already have been, which you may have noticed) within the next few days, and you’ll retain access to all the Club content (resource library, Basecamp group, and coaching call archives) through the end of October.

We have loved serving you and the other Club members. But due to our own limited time and energy as a team, we have not been able to do much content creation or community building for the larger Focus Course community. We want to take the time we have been giving to the Club and begin focusing it toward everyone.

Backstory

In 2016 we set out to build a private online community for those that wanted a next step after The Focus Course. After a great deal of consideration, we launched the Focus Club community in August 2016. The goal was to help build community for those seeking breakthrough with their side projects. To make meaningful progress in the areas of life that matter most.

We wanted the Club community to be the place for our most engaged followers.

And so when we launched The Focus Club it had three main benefits: (a) a resource library; (b) monthly coaching calls; and (c) the private Slack channel.

The community has been great, and we’ve built some awesome relationships. But you might have noticed that it’s not growing much. As such, the Club is not at a scale that makes sense for us as a business to continue to pour our limited time and resources into.

One of the trade-offs we’ve made in producing content for our Club community is that it has limited us from being able to share content with the greater Focus Course audience. As I mentioned above, as a small team we have limited time and resources. While Focus Club has been a great experiment, it is taking away from other things we could be doing better. And so we need to chose wisely what those areas will be — balancing positive impact and work we love with what’s profitable.

So we’re taking our own advice and focusing on fewer things to do them better.

What We’ve Learned

We have found that right now we thrive better with projects that have a start and an end date. We need to maintain our own internal margin and focus in order to give our best energy to the things we are best at doing (and which are the primary drivers of our business revenue).

Some Practicals

As of October 31, 2018 the Focus Club community will officially be phased out. Any club membership dues that have been paid after October 1 will be refunded. The resource library will be removed from the dashboard, and the Basecamp team will be removed.

If you purchased access to club through The Focus Course premium bundle, we will discount the remaining monthly payments to account for the lack of the Club community.

If you have any questions about your membership details, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Thank you so much. It has been our honor to serve you in this way, and we look forward to continuing to serve you — just not inside the Club.
